Safety & Privacy

We designed Kidhoot from the ground up with children's safety and family privacy in mind. Here's exactly what we do — and don't do.

What Kidhoot Does NOT Do​

  • ❌ No ads — there are no advertisements of any kind in the app
  • ❌ No in-app purchases — all content is included with the download (currently)
  • ❌ No social features — no chat, sharing, or user profiles visible to others
  • ❌ No microphone access — the app never listens to your child
  • ❌ No third-party tracking — no advertising SDKs, no analytics that profile users
  • ❌ No user-generated content — all content is pre-reviewed by our team

Anonymous by Default​

Kidhoot uses Firebase Authentication to manage accounts, but no account is required to use the app. If you never link an email address, you remain completely anonymous — Firebase assigns an anonymous ID that contains no personal information.

If you do link an email (for cloud backup), only that email address is stored. We do not collect names, addresses, or any other personal data.

Crash Reporting (Opt-In Only)​

Kidhoot optionally uses Sentry for crash reporting. This is turned off by default.

If you enable it in Settings → Privacy:

  • Anonymous crash data is sent when the app encounters an error
  • Data includes: error type, device model, Android version, app version
  • No personal data and no child activity data is ever included
  • You can disable it again at any time

Crash reporting helps us fix bugs faster, but the choice is entirely yours.

Content Safety​

Every piece of content in Kidhoot — images, words, audio — is:

  • Age-appropriate for children 2–6
  • Pre-reviewed by our team before release
  • Free from violence, adult themes, or inappropriate language

There is no mechanism for new content to appear without going through our review process.

Parent Controls​

The parent settings area (accessible by holding the ⚙️ button for 3 seconds) is deliberately designed to prevent children from accidentally accessing it. This protects:

  • Voice and language settings
  • Progress data
  • Account and backup settings
