Safety & Privacy
Kidhoot is designed for young children to use with a parent or caregiver nearby.
A calm, protected experience
Kidhoot has:
- No advertising or in-app purchases
- No chat, public profiles, or social sharing
- No user-created or open Internet content
- No microphone or location access
- No behavioural advertising or sale of family data
Learning content is prepared and reviewed before it is included in Kidhoot.
What stays on the device
Without backup, the child profile, settings, progress, statistics, and badges stay on that device. No parent email is required for normal learning.
A personal ElevenLabs key and downloaded voice files also stay on the device. A downloaded data export can contain the key and other private information, so do not share the export publicly.
Optional backup
Parents can link an email to protect progress and restore it on another supported device. Kidhoot uses the email only for sign-in and backup. Backup can be disconnected, exported, or permanently deleted from Settings.
Spoken text
Most audio is included with Kidhoot or produced on the device. When online voice help is needed, a short phrase—including a child's name used in a celebration—may be sent to a voice service to create the audio. If a parent connects a personal ElevenLabs account, that account is used.
When missing or personalized speech is created online, the requested text and generated audio are processed by Cloudflare and ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs keeps generation history according to the account and service policy in use; zero retention may not be enabled, and Kidhoot does not promise zero retention. See the ElevenLabs privacy policy.
Kidhoot does not use the microphone and never records the child's voice.
Diagnostics
Kidhoot sends a small report when the app has a serious crash. It contains technical information such as the app and device version and the type of error.
Share additional diagnostics is optional and off by default. It can include more recent app events to help investigate a problem. Current versions may include a short part of text requested from the optional ElevenLabs voice in those event details. Leave this option off if you do not want additional diagnostic details shared.
Diagnostics are not used for advertising or to score a child's learning.
Parent choices
In Settings, a parent can:
- Change the child profile and learning languages
- Choose the voice option
- Turn additional diagnostics on or off
- Link or disconnect backup
- Download a copy of local data
- Permanently delete local and linked backup data
