Parent Settings Guide

The parent settings area gives you full control over how Kidhoot works for your child. Here's everything you can configure.

How to Access Settings

To prevent children from accidentally changing things, parent settings require a deliberate gesture:

  1. Go to the Home screen
  2. Press and hold the Settings button (βš™οΈ) for 3 seconds
  3. The parent menu will appear

From here you can choose between Settings, Parent Dashboard, and other options.

Voice & Text-to-Speech (TTS)

Kidhoot uses spoken audio throughout all activities. You can choose between three voice options:

OptionSetupQualityInternet needed?
System voiceNoneBasicNo
PiperDownload onceNatural, offlineDownload only
ElevenLabsAPI key requiredPremiumYes (each session)

To switch voice: Settings β†’ Voice

See Voice Quality & TTS Setup for full setup instructions.

Volume Control

Use the volume slider in Settings β†’ Voice to adjust the app's audio independently of your device volume.

Child Profile

You can update your child's profile at any time:

  • Name β€” change the display name used in the app
  • Age β€” update as your child grows; this adjusts activity pacing
  • Avatar β€” let them pick a new favourite character
  • Language β€” change the primary learning language

These are found under Settings β†’ Child Profile.

Multilingual Mode

Multilingual mode lets your child practise the same concepts in more than one language β€” great for bilingual families or language learning.

To enable it:

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Languages
  2. Toggle Multilingual Mode on
  3. Select the languages you'd like included in exercises
World Badges

When your child completes a module in two or more languages, they earn a special ⭐ World Badge. These are displayed on the Parent Dashboard as a fun extra achievement.

Crash Reporting (Sentry)

Kidhoot uses Sentry to help us identify and fix bugs quickly. This is disabled by default and completely opt-in.

If you choose to enable it:

  • Anonymous crash data (error type, device model, app version) is sent to Sentry
  • No personal data, no child activity data is included
  • You can disable it again at any time in Settings β†’ Privacy

See Safety & Privacy for our full approach to data.

Backup & Sync

Link an email address to keep your child's progress safe and restore it on a new device. This is covered fully in Cloud Backup & Account Linking.
