Getting Started with Kidhoot
Welcome to Kidhoot — a playful, offline-first learning app designed for curious children ages 2–6. This guide walks you through everything you need to get up and running.
What is Kidhoot?
Kidhoot offers 14 fun learning modules covering numbers, letters, animals, colours, and more. Every activity is designed for young children with big buttons, clear audio, and positive reinforcement. It works in four languages and runs fully offline — no Wi-Fi required during play.
Supported Languages
Kidhoot currently supports:
- 🇺🇸 English
- 🇫🇷 French
- 🇮🇹 Italian
You can also enable multilingual mode so your child practises the same concepts in multiple languages. See the Parent Settings Guide for details.
First-Time Setup
When you open Kidhoot for the first time, a quick setup wizard guides you through:
- Language selection — choose your child's primary learning language
- Child's name — enter a name to personalise the experience
- Age selection — helps tailor the pace of activities
- Avatar selection — let your child pick their favourite character
- Parent tips screen — a brief overview of key features for you
The whole setup takes about two minutes.
You can change all of these settings later in the Parent Settings area — nothing is locked in during setup.
How to Access Parent Settings
Parent settings are protected to prevent little fingers from accidentally changing things.
To unlock:
- Go to the Home screen
- Find the Settings button (⚙️ icon)
- Hold it down for 3 seconds
- The parent settings menu will open

Offline-First Design
Kidhoot is built to work without an internet connection. All core learning content — activities, audio, animations — is bundled with the app.
An internet connection is only needed for:
- Downloading optional voice models (Piper TTS)
- Using the ElevenLabs premium voice
- Linking a backup email and syncing progress
See Voice Quality & TTS Setup and Cloud Backup for more.
